Important Microsoft Update Information
Alert

Introduction

As most of you are aware, Microsoft releases Security Updates to their Operating Systems and other products on a monthly basis to tighten security and reduce operating system vulnerability to virus attacks. While these changes are necessary to improve the overall reliability, the changes can also compromise overall system operation when used with our products.

While GE Fanuc cannot offer insight or support into the reliability of the Microsoft patch specifically, we will provide insight into how our products function with the various patches and make any potential vulnerabilities known to you along with a recommendation and/or timeline to address.

Please note that this service is being done for Microsoft patches that are deemed Critical only. As such we cannot provide insight regarding supportability on any patches not specifically released as Critical from Microsoft.

Process

Microsoft releases their security updates on the second Tuesday of every month. The following process is performed as soon as these updates are made available to us.

  • The GE Fanuc engineering team performs risk, vulnerability, and impact assessment for Proficy Automation software products immediately after Microsoft releases the new security software patch. A preliminary analysis of potential vulnerability for all critical updates will be released 2 business days after the updates are available (typically, the Thursday following the release).
  • GE Fanuc will then release the validation information through the GE Fanuc Support website on the Important Microsoft Update Information page within 7 business days (excluding holidays).
  • This information will be included in the link referenced below. Unlisted patches released by Microsoft before the date on the contained documents are deemed to be non-critical will not be validated. Unlisted patches released by Microsoft after the date of this document are pending for evaluation. It is recommended that unlisted patches should not be installed on the products in order to eliminate malfunction and downtime risks.
  • Customers will be responsible for staying informed about vulnerability information and its impact on GE Fanuc Proficy Automation Software through visiting the GE Fanuc Support website.
  • Customers will be responsible for the installation of the validated Microsoft security software patches.
